I have been playing at Ultimate Bet lately and decided to try to find the best online poker deal going at the moment. I want to start playing very seriously for income so it’s important to be getting the best deal as it really does affect your bottom line. Anybody who has ever put in any serious hours under a rakeback deal will confirm this. You just can’t pay a 5% rake and do very well in the long run at anything but the higher stakes games.

If I were content to playing NL Holdem cash games this decision would be easier. But I’m not. I rarely play that game anymore because it has become a little too boring for me. These days I prefer to play a variety of games, but am most interested in PLO and PLO8. So I need there to be at least a few of these tables going at any given time, plus a nice assortment of other games such as Stud and Stud Hi-Lo. This requirement rules out a lot of places!

Secondly, I want the Omaha games to be full 9 or 10 handed as opposed to 6-max. Why? Because they are a much better deal. Less blind pressure and and much lower overall rake for a reasonably tight player. This narrows down the choices even more.

My research has indicated that Full Tilt with the 27% Rakeback deal is the best place for me. What a shame that I already have a Full Tilt account and thus cannot get the rakeack deal! This definitely keeps me off the site or I would make FT my permanent home.

The Ultimate Bet deal isn’t bad as you are always playing for a bonus and the bonuses add up faster than the Stars VIP points do. (I count them the same even though VIP points are not redeemable for cash because I buy into the Sunday Million once a month or so with bonuses earned, rakeback, or VIP points anyway.) But the game selection isn’t great at UB for Omaha. It’s OK, but not great.

So I am playing at Stars now and doing the VIP thing. I am not thrilled with this deal nor the Omaha game quality there to be honest. Until I find something better there I am. I will try looking at Bodog and Titan again but the Omaha game selection just hasn’t been there. I’ll probably end up back at UB when all is said and done.
